Good morning!
What an amazing day of skiing yesterday. All the skiers had smiles on their faces (for various reasons), all the amazing support from the families, Coach Pruett and I were commenting on what an amazing community that we're part of. Thank you.
Here's some highlights from yesterday:
B C, fighting illness, finished in the top 24 (more on why that's important later)
A B improved his finish from last year's Freestyle Coaches' Series by almost 10%, and was a great help with everything at the end of the day.
N S improved his finish from last year's Freestyle Coaches' Series by over 15%, and was super helping out the MS
J C, in moving up to HS racing, finished fifth in the "B" race which is set up for first year high school skiers, and he was also a huge help with getting things down to the stadium in the morning.
K F also had a great race in the "B" group with a sixth place and was another awesome contributor to the MS cheering squad.
Z H finished fourth in the "B" race, just missing the podium by 0.7 seconds. Zach was also experiencing his first big race and seemed to enjoy it.
A V, in her seventh Coaches' Series race, third one at White Mountains, had a great race finishing thirty-third but this was a very strong girls field with ten of the top thirty U18s, and four of the top twenty U16s in New England. She was also incredibly helpful leading the skiers with calmness and grace.
A F improved her performance from last year by better than fifteen percent, she has been skiing very well as of late, but was also fighting some illness and toughed it out Saturday.
K B skied very well, provided wonderful commentary, and finished twelfth among U16 girls.
H D discovered that hydrating works. She also skied a great race and improved on her performance from last year while moving from MS to HS. She also finished in the top twenty-five of the girls "B" race
J E quietly improved from last year by a whopping thirty-five percent! Wow. Great job!
E C has been skiing much, much better all year. Saturday, he proved that by improving more than sixty percent over last year's Coaches' Series. He's doing great!
Q M, who may have done more to get his father excited about skiing than anyone in the history of the sport, also had a great day. He improved his finish from last year's Freestyle Coaches' Series by over forty percent! He's also improving his technique every day and the coaches notice it all the time.
A S got to ski against some competition yesterday and it will have a positive impact on his skiing. It's hard to ski hard in a race when you're in the front. He finished twenty percent better from his performance in last year's Freestyle Coaches' Series and got to ski a great course.
T P in skiing by his count some 20 km yesterday, may have topped the distance total for Kearsarge. He also had a great race finishing in 15th place and improving his performance by forty-four percent over last year.
K C won the award for the shortest socks of the day and I'm still hoping that he wore longer ones in his ski boots. He skied with a smile on and also skied his longest race of the year.
G R put in an incredible effort. So much so, that he may make a different choice in deciding when to fuel up before the race. His expression at the finish line was classic.
CC K gets the award for wanting to ski more than just about anyone. She is injured but that didn't detract her from walking the entire course!
I P learned the vital lesson that tying your boots can have a positive impact on skiing performance. It meant that she was able to have her longest race properly equipped.
E R has a motor that just won't quit. She also is keenly aware of what she needs to work on to become a better skier. Besides that she brightens the day for everyone!
A W has surprised us in many ways this season, but with her mother's (?) thick gloves and hard work she keeps improving every time she's out on her skis.
This week:
