Being outdoors, skiing fast, having fun

Where we’ve come from…

Kearsarge has had a Nordic ski team pretty consistently for more than twenty-five years. The current team’s foundation was built starting in 2010 when Kevin Lee began his second stint as coach. That first year back there were four (or five) skiers who were all seniors on the team. When they all graduated it looked a bit grim… But with the expertise of coach James Doneski, and some fortuitous mistakes on which ski team organizational meeting kids were going to, Kearsarge Nordic was reborn.

That year, 2011-2012, there were seven skiers including two middle schoolers. In 2018-2019 the team had twenty-seven high school skiers and twenty-two middle schoolers.

The goals of the team are to get outside in the winter, to ski fast, and to have fun. Sometimes we don’t do it that order, but we really try to have fun. We are lucky to be able to practice and host races at the Nordic trails at Proctor Academy’s Ski Area and we’ve enjoyed success in bringing young people and their families to the sport.
