December 11, 2022
Hi all,
As I sit here looking outside at the brown ground but flurries in the air, I'm really hoping that we'll have some extended weather conducive to skiing and snowmaking this week. We will be at Proctor for practices this week. There's only a little bit of snow, but we'll be on snow. Make sure that you have your skate skis, boots and skate poles with you along with water and proper clothing. Because of changes at Proctor, our "on-snow" time is either 3:30-5:30 or 4:00-6:00. Practice times reflect that with practices starting at 3:15 or 3:45. We rarely do two full hours on snow, but there will be times when we do an over distance (OD) day that may be close to that. I'll note it in the update for folks so that parents can plan on pickup.
There is a constantly updated calendar at the kearsargenordic.org web site. Kearsarge Nordic Calendar
This week is also our first week that includes some of our skiers going off to a New England Nordic Ski Association (NENSA) Eastern Cup race. These are regional races that are used to award points for Junior National rankings. We've had two skiers who started out at Kearsarge make JNs, and while we don't always have great success, we do have a great time skiing up against some really good skiers. When skiers come back to NH races, they've learned about the commitment and focus necessary for top level skiing. They also get to ski at some great venues.
This week:
Monday: High Schoolers will meet right after school in the RC to get their uniforms. Practice at Proctor. 3:45-5:30 pm Skate skiing, return to snow
Tuesday: Practice at Proctor 3:15-5 Some speed work (terrain dependent)
Wednesday: Practice at Proctor 3:15-5 Recover skiing and some technique **Kids going to EC race should ski on classic skis
Thursday: Practice at Proctor 3:45-5:30 Distance ski
Friday: off Skiers going to the Eastern Cup travel day
Wax Hosts: we have the following families for wax hosts right now: Blagden/?, Chabot, Baer, Frenkiewich. Wax kits for the hosts are in the trailer, just please let me know which kit you take so I can write it down. The materials in there are all the team materials. I'm working on getting some more tables to go along with the kits, but they run $350 or so.
The puffy jackets that folks ordered should be in this week. There are a couple women's jackets available from folks who didn't want them after ordering them. See me about that.
That's it, I'm off to wax some skis.
